Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of field crops department , college of Agriculture Abu-Ghraib , Univ. of Baghdad , Iraq during the growing seasons of 2010 and 2011 , to evaluate the effects of seed soaking with pyridoxine , cutting height and stages on HCN concentration of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench ) Cv. Kaffir .
Layout of the experiment was Randomized complete Block Design by using split – split plot arrangement with three replicates. Pyridoxine conc. (0, 2, 4 and 6g/L) were assigned as main plots and cutting height (10, 20 and 30 cm) above soil surface as sub – plots , while cutting stages at (Vegetative growth , 50% flowering and dough stage ) as sub-sub plots . In each seasonThree cuts were taken .Results showed that in 1stand sec. seasons , highest level of pyridoxine resulted in a significant increment in HCN conc. reached to (192.9 , 126.2 , 182.1 ppm) in 1stseason for the three cuttings respectively . cutting plants at level 10cm above soil surface reduce the HCN conc. In two Season Since is 1st season it reached (160.5 , 117.35 , 158.37 ppm) and in sec. season ( 147.2 , 104.21 , 112.15 ppm) for the three cutting respectively , Results also revealed that plant cutting at dough stage contain less conc. of HCN in both seasons Since . in 1st and sec. season conc. At HCN reaced (98.2 , 84.5 , 114.5 ppm ) and ( 73.5 , 71.8 , 72.2 ppm ) for three cutting respectively . In both season there were significant interaction between pyridoxine conc and cutting height , pyridoxine conc. and cutting stages and between cutting height and cutting stages
