Abstract

College of Agriculture, University of Baghdad

Abstract
Correlation and path analysis were performed to assess the interrelationships between seed yield and other important traits of thirteen sunflower genotypes. Field trials were setup according to randomized complete block design with three replicates at the experiment farm of the College of Agriculture, University of Baghdad, during 2005 and 2008. High values of heritability were estimated for leaf area , seed weight and seed yield (0.98, 0.88, 0.85) respectively, medium for head diameter, seed number per head and plant height (0.70, 0.68, 0.66) respectively. All traits showed significant positive relationships with seed yield at both genetic and phynotypic levels, but the most correlated trait to seed yield were seed number per head and plant height (0.77). Seed number per head seed weight and head diameter showed positive direct effects on seed yield (1.89, 1.34 ,o.75) respectively, but head diameter showed lower negative in directs effect therefore, it seems that selection plant of higher with seed number and head diameter in sunflower will give higher yield performance.
