Effect of NPK compound fertilizer and method of agriculture in growth and production characteristics of the maize crop under field conditions

AbstractA field experiment was conducted under field conditions, College of Agriculture, Al-Anbar University in 2004. To study the effect of three levels of N.P.K. fertilizer (20:20:20) 0, 160, 320 kg/ha and planting method (rows, ridges) on growth and productivity of corn plant (Zea mays L.), cultivar Bohoth Terkeby 106. Randomized Complete Block Design with three replicates was used in this experiment. 320 kg/ha NPK fertilizer treatment gave significant increase in plant height, leaf no./plant, leaf area, chlorophyll content, protein, oil, starch, weight of 1000 grains, grains yield/plant and total grains yield per hectare. Results were as the following respectively: 202. 5 cm/plant, 15.3 leaf/plant, 64.8 ds2/plant, 2.383 mg/gm, 10.0 %, 4.6 %, 60.5 %, 278.9 gm/1000grains, 246.7 gm/plant and 13.14 ton/h. planting treatment on rows then ridges gave higher significant results for the above characters compared with rows planting methods. The results were respectively: 179.8 cm/plant, 14.8 leaf/plant, 54.86 ds2/plant, 1.99 mg/gm, 8.42 %, 3.93 %, 52.79 %, 261.2 gm/1000 grains, 199.7 gm/plant and 10.6 ton/h. The interaction treatment between 320 kg/h NPK level and planting method on ridges gave high significant results for the above characters as the following respectively: 208 cm/plant, 15.6 leaf/plant, 68.6 ds2/plant, 2.56 mg/gm, 10.4 %, 4.8 %, 62.2 %, 290.7 gm/1000 grains, 262.6 gm/plant and 13.99 ton/h.
