Abstract

This study was conducted in sandy loam textured soil in Halabsa- Fallouja district/ Al- Anbar province, during the winter season of 2007- 2008, to investigate the effects of three wheat cultivars; Al- izz, Al- latifia, and Al- dour 29; and recommended concentrations of three herbicide mixtures (Lantur + Topic and Logran + Topic) as well as control treatment on controlling (broad and grass leaf weeds) in wheat fields and on growth properties and yield of wheat. The experimental design was RCBD of split- split block system with three replicates. The results showed that Al- latifia cultivars affected significantly in decreasing density of weeds, it also had superiority effects on tillers and leaves number per plant. Al-izz cultivars had superiority effects on plants heights, flag leaf area and dry matter yield and grain yield in comparison with Al- dour 29 cultivars which had no superiority effects on any of these properties. The results indicated that the plants treated with (Logran + Topic) mixture decreased significantly the density of weeds per square meter and increased significantly some of important growth traits like; tillers and leaves number per plant, and dry matter yield and grain yield. Compared with Lantur + Topic and control treatments that had superiority in each of flag leaf area and plant height respectively. The results also showed significant effect for interaction between cultivars and mixture of herbicides in plant height tillers and leaves number per plant, and flag leaf area. Al- izz plants treated with Logran + Topic showed the highest plant height (97.5 cm) and flag leaf area (45.88 cm2) while Al-latifia plants treated with Logran+ Topic showed the same trends for tillers and leaves number per plant which were 14.87 and 53.20 respectively.
