Effect of foliar application of Iron and Boron on vegetative and fruit growth of olive (Olea europaea) cv. Bashyki

AbstractThis research was conducted in the field of Horticulture Dept. College of Agric. And Forestery (Mosul university) Mosul ,IRAQ,to study the effect of foliar spray of two concentrations of Iron and Boron on vegetative growth and fruit characteristics of olive (Olea europaea.L) cv.Bashyki during (2007)season,two concentrations (50mg/L and 100mg/L) of both Iron and boron were used as a foliar spray in addition to control treatement, each tree was considered as an experimental unit . RCBD experimental design used with three replicates . Results obtained could be summarized that foliar application of 50mg/L of Fe element enhance length of branch during autumn season which differ significantly with other treatements and reach to (55cm) at the same time this treatement caused significant decrease in average length of side branches . Meanwhile no significant effect noticed by foliar application of both elements Iron and Boron on other vegetative parameters. Foliar application of (100mg/L) of both Iron and Boron caused a significant increase of fruit flesh weigth which reach up to (6.15,6.01gm respectively) and all treatements significantly enhance fruit colour as compared with control, while foliar spray of high concentrations of both elemenes (Iron and Boron) imcreasing the percentage of shrinkged fruit , no significant effect noticed of spray treatements on the rest of fruit qualitative and quantitative characteristics.
