AbstractTwo field experiments were carried out at Sebha University during 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 to study the effect of irrigation at four levels of available soil moisture depletion(ASMD) i.e, 20 ,40 ,60 and 80% and four levels of potassium fertilization viz, 0, 30, 60 and 90 kg / ha on yield components, seed and oil yields of canola , Serw4 variety in addition to water use efficiency.
The results revealed that number of branches/plant, leave area index(LAI), number of pods/plant and number of seeds/ pod were significantly increased with increasing the availability of soil moisture in the root zone, reaching the maximum when irrigation was applied at 20% ASMD,while a marked reduction in the weight of 1000 seed and water use efficiency values were recorded.
A gradual and significant increase in the values of the above-mentioned that plant height, number of branches/plant, leave area index(LAI), number of pods/plant, number of seeds/ pod, seed and oil yields and water use efficiency were while weight of 1000 seed and oil persentag were not significantly affected, the applied doses of k fertilization from 0 to 90 kg/ ha.
Interaction between irrigation regime and k fertilization was significant effect on seed and oil yields/ha. and water use efficiency. The highest of seed yield was achieved when plants were irrigated at 40% of ASMD and received 60 kg potassium/ ha. while the lowest values of the trait was computed in the unfertilized plants which irrigated at 80% of ASMD,the values of water use efficiency were on the contrast with the above-mentioned characters. Maximum water use efficiency by canola plants was estimated when irrigation was applied to 90 kg potassium/ ha.at 80% of ASMD. While water use efficiency was minimized computed in the unfertilized plants which irrigated at 20% of ASMD .
The obtained data showed that it may be recommended to grow canola and fertilize plants with 60 kg of K irrigation at 40% of ASMD to have high yield at similar condition to that of the present study .
