Detection of fungi associated with water Hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes in Al-Zafaranyeh

AbstractThe study was carried out in the laboratories at the College of Agriculture, Baghdad University to isolate and identify the fungi that associated with water Hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes. The samples were collected from area south of Baghdad (Al-Zafaranyeh). The presence ratios of fungi were recorded and their pathogenicity was tested. The results of isolation and identification of associated fungi show that presence of fifteen species of fungi were associated with water Hyacinth :Acremonium sp. , Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus flavus , Aspergillus niger, Epicoccum sp., Chaetomium sp., Curvularia sp., Fusarium semitectum , Mucor sp., Mycelia Sterile Fungi, Penicillium sp. , Pythium aphanidermatum, Ulocladium sp. , Rhizopus sp. and Trichoderma viride. However, the percentages of presence were deferent and the most frequently were A. alternata and Rhizopus sp. reached 68.75 and 82.30 % respectively. The percentages for the other fungi that were between 2.45 - 30.42 %.
The results of pathogenicity test for Seven fungi were show the differences among the tested fungi in their pathogenicity under laboratory conditions. In additional the results of the percentages of disease severity were different significantly comparison with the control treatment reached to 44.4 – 100%. The results showed that the fungi Pythium aphanidermatum and Rhizopus sp. were succeeded in accrued the highest percentage of disease severity reached 100%. On the other hand, the diseased symptoms were differenced depended on the fungus genus and species were the plants showed the symptoms of spotting, yellowing, wilting and the drying of the plants leaves.
