Effect of nitrogenous and phosphorous fertilizers on growth and yield of Roselle (hibiscus sabdariffa L.)

AbstractTo study the effect of nitrogenous and phosphorous fertilizers on growth and yield of roselle plant .Field experiment was conducted at the experimental farm, Dep. of Field Crops, Coll. of Agric. Univ. of Baghdad during the summer season of 2011 .Factorial experiment arranged in RCBD with three replicates were used. Four levels of nitrogen fertilizer applied as urea 0, 150, 200 and 250 kg h-1, and four levels of calcium super phosphorous which are 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg P2O5 ha-1.
The results showed that increasing nitrogen to 250 kg ha-1 gave increasing percent about 19.61 % in plant height , 56.6% in brunches number per plant and 52.54% in fruits per plant also so gave highest calyx weight about 1326.93 kg ha-1. No significant differences between phosphorous levels in calyx yield per plant and the all differ significantly from control .High yield of plant about 35.5 gm was from 150 kg P2O5 ha-1 in increasing about 25% compared to control. Best combination was 250kg ha-1 urea with 100 kg P2O5 ha-1 gave highest calyx yield about 1494.13 kg ha-1.
