Stem rot and leaf spot of Eucalyptus sp and its control

Infected specimens of Eucalyptus spp. Myrtaceae received from local nursery were examined; they showed rotting and browning at the basal regions of their stems.
Isolations were made from the affected portions and a profusely growing fungus was obtained consistently and it was identified as Pestalotia maculiformans. Successful pathogenicity tests were also carried out. Effect of three fungicides Benlate, Topsin and Dithane M-45 on the growth and sporulation of the pathogen was studied in vitro and in vivo, Benlate was found to be most effective even at 0.001 gm liter amongest all fungicides tested.

Effect of The Use of Some Treatments on Storage Characters and Infection Severity of Some Rot Causing Fungi on Green Bean Fruits Under 12- 18 ºC

Study was conducted in the cold storages unit, Horticulture Department and the laboratories of Plant Protection Dept. College of Agric., Univ. of Baghdad during seasons 2005-2006, the results showed isolation of the genera Alternaria, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cylindrocarpon, Sclerotinia and Rhizopus from green bean pods stored under 12-18c. This is the first record in Iraq of these genera as pathogenic fungi of green bean pods rot in the stores.The sterilization of green pods and packing them in the netted bags decreased the percentage of microbial decay and total infection severity by the fungi and prolong period of storage to reach 6 days, and showed lower infection severity and low frequency rate of Alternaria and Aspergillus. The genus Penicillium and Cylindrocarpon was not found in this treatment. Polyethylene bags with 16 holes showed less weight loss percent which reached 0.5% and no physiological disorder occurred. holes after 6 days. No pod cracking was occurred in polyethylene bags with 32 holes and netted bags when sterilized.
